There are many ‘Stories by Heart’ written of people and their music; indeed in all of the Performing Arts.  Stories that inspire, challenge, delight, and create a place in our hearts for the impossible.

Like the young man who played violin for the exhausted workers at Ground Zero, giving
his all through his music.

Or the musicians who played till the very end of their lives on the Titanic. (As the story goes!)

The Prison Camp Violin

Sometimes in life we meet some very amazing people. Over 60 years after this story happened, I visited with the man who wrote it, and played the violin that he built out of Nazi prison bed slabs for wood, with broken glass for a carving tool. This beautiful "prison" violin is the central character to this story, but the WW2 veteran and his wife whom I spent a few hours with one day will remain in my heart as fondly as the memory of the rich sounds that came from this incredible instrument.
